Trump calls for CNN’s Pentagon correspondent to be fired
Bertrand co-authored a CNN report on Wednesday citing preliminary US military intelligence assessments that contradicted Trump’s claims that the US had decimated Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Other media outlets later supported CNN’s findings.
In response, Trump posted on Truth Social: “Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her spreading Fake News for three days straight. She should be immediately reprimanded and thrown out ‘like a dog.’”
CIA Director John Ratcliffe defended the strikes, asserting that credible intelligence indicates significant damage was inflicted on Iran’s nuclear program.
CNN responded by reaffirming the accuracy of its reporting, stating that it reflected the preliminary nature of the Pentagon’s findings and served the public interest.
Trump also brought up Bertrand’s previous reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop story. While working for Politico in 2020, Bertrand authored a piece quoting former intelligence officials who suggested the story showed signs of a Russian information campaign. Trump argued that her portrayal was misleading, noting that the letter cited did not definitively label the story as disinformation.
The laptop in question, which reportedly contained compromising material, had been abandoned at a Delaware repair shop by Hunter Biden, who has publicly struggled with drug addiction.
